PROJECTS
Alford Manor House
Probus Construction Ltd is currently delivering a carefully considered extension and refurbishment to Alford Manor House, a Grade II listed heritage property and active visitor attraction in North Lincolnshire. The project will create a new multi-purpose function room to accommodate weddings, funerals, and a range of community events, enhancing the manor’s role as a local social and cultural venue.
Project requirements
The project requires Probus Construction Ltd to construct a classic cavity-wall design extension that offers Alford Manor House an additional 183 square meters. The extension is being built using traditional materials and methods, including reclaimed brickwork, lime mortar, cobblestone flooring, and a natural Spanish slate roof. These features ensure that the new space remains in keeping with the historic fabric of the original building, blending a modern construction with the historic features required for such a landmark. Working closely with the architects, the conservationist, the heritage consultant and the local planning committee, the overall design of the building will be a perfect blend of heritage and contemporary designs.
Due to Alford Manor House’s heritage and historical significance, archaeological oversight is in place. The construction process is being managed with great care and attention to ensure the museum and visitor facilities remain open throughout, which was a major requirement of the volunteers that run the site on a daily basis. Managing a site that is immediately adjacent to the general public is not new to Probus Construction, so the precautions and procedures that must be put in place to ensure the safety of the general public were some of the first things that were actioned at Alford Manor House. Probus have installed secure fencing that borders the active construction zones and installed vibrant signage clearly outlining the required actions from the general public nearby.
Maintaining the historic character
Working closely with conservation officers and the Civic Trust, Probus Construction is committed to delivering a sympathetic, high-quality and practical addition that both respects the building’s historic character and brings long-term value to the local community. Whilst Probus Construction are delivering the project on site, the works are being funded, organised and managed by East Lindsey District Council. This arrangement brings together a range of stakeholders that are all working together to deliver the necessary requirements and add a highly usable space that Alford so desperately needs. Probus are confident working with local councils and have the capacity to offer the flexibility and personality that working with councils often requires.
